MILIA

The most common skin complaint. Milia lie very superficially under the skin and are very easy to treat. They are small, white spots that usually appear around the eyes, cheeks and the eyelids. It is a collection of fatty tissue simply blocking a pore. The exact cause of Milia is unknown but they are often related to a high cholesterol diet, dry dehydrated skin, high intake of Vitamin C, using products on the face which are too rich or acidic or there is possibly a hereditary link.

SKIN TAGS

Skin tags are skin growths which resemble a small piece of soft, hanging skin. Skin tags are viral in nature and so they do seem to spread on certain individuals. They can be caused by friction and are commonly found around the neck, under the arms, on the chest, back, under the breast.

TELANGIECTASIA

Also known as broken capillaries or thread veins. Telangiectasia, are small dilated blood vessels on the surface of the skin. They can develop anywhere on the body but are commonly seen on the face around the nose, cheeks and chin. There are many possible causes, eg. sun and UV damage, harsh weather exposure, pregnancy, certain medications, eating spicy foods, hormonal influences, hereditary links.

SEBBORHOEIC KERATOSIS

Is one of the most common noncancerous skin growths in older adults, also known as Basal Cell Papilloma. A seborrheic keratosis usually appears as a brown, black or light tan growth on the face, chest, shoulders or back. The growth has a waxy, scaly, slightly elevated appearance. Cause is natural ageing, sun damage and hereditary reasons.

Warts

There are various types of warts, including flat (plane), raised (common) and verrucas (plantar). They are of viral and contagious origin (human papilloma virus) and all can be safely treated. They can be found anywhere on the body, varying in size and should be attended to as early as possible in order to avoid spreading the condition.

CAMPBELL DE MORGAN

Also known as a cherry angioma is a vascular blemish where it is not possible to distinguish the individual capillaries. It is generally domed shaped or raised and most common on trunk or torso, particularly on the midriff back of front. Most people over 30 have at least one.

DERMATOSA PAPULOSA NIGRA

It is a common papula disorder peculiar to black skin. It generally develops in adolescence and it’s smooth, dome shaped, brown to black papules are located on cheeks, neck and upper chest.

MOLE

True moles are usually velvety and soft and are form of pigmented naevi found commonly on the face and body. Moles vary in size and colour from pale tan to brown to bluish black and often develop terminal hairs in them because of a well developed vascular supply.

XANTHELASMA

Xanthelasma Palpebrarum commonly appears on eyelids as a milky/yellow fatty deposit with flat surface and sharp distinctive borders. It is often mistaken for milia.

SYRINGOMA

Non contagious flesh coloured elevations of the skin. Syringoma typically appear as small flesh coloured to yellowish bumps. They usually occur in clusters on both sides of the body and in an evenly distributed fashion.
